Death of Jean-Pierre Barbé

Jean-Pierre Barbé, 85, has passed away.

A Boitsfort resident since his very first day, Jean-Pierre was born in Watermael-Boitsfort on August 22, 1940.

Jean-Pierre joined the Royal Racing Club de Bruxelles in 1954, and his imposing stature made him a shot putter (12.57 m) and discus thrower (39.80 m). His involvement with Racing was absolute: at a very young age, he became a member of the Board of Directors, then Chairman from 1981 to 2001.

Recognized for his perfect command of the rules, Jean-Pierre was an official for the French-speaking Belgian Athletics League, even reaching the rank of international. Loyal to Racing, he also officiated for the club for over fifty years and was a full member. Professionally, he pursued his career with the same rigor as a chartered accountant.

Jean-Pierre’s trademark was his sense of humor. He always had a good joke to tell to anyone he came across, and his eyes would light up when he saw the effect on his audience. Today, it’s no longer tears of laughter, but tears of sadness that he’s gone.

However, for all those who knew him, he will always be present in our hearts.
Thanks to you, Jean-Pierre, for the love of Racing that you have instilled in us.
